(the past) The Llandoger Trow

from Aneira_Greene on 06/01/2020 12:05 AM

Aneira was done. Done with everything, from earning a pitiful allowance, to the smell of beer, to ale stains on her dress and the hole in her cap. The Llandoger Trow, Bristol docks, was home to allsorts of people who didn't want to be questioned, who either wanted to catch a date or drink away their worries. And that placed them in a prime position for Pirates who had docked in Bristol.
She had learnt at an early age not to expect too much from men, and the Barkeeper, Mr Jones, was no different. He expected his Barmaids to comply instantly to any demands given to them, to dress modestly but not too modestly, to know how to quiet a crowd and swindle money out of even the lowliest of saliors, and with no payrise out of it. And to do it all night. But they just had to tie their apron firmly around their waist a get on with it.
Tonight was particularly bad, a cold and wet night always brought many people, but in the aftermath of a storm tens of ships had taken refuge at the docks and had come to get bed and board here, or just to warm themselves up with ale. The odd woman drifted amongst the crowd, but it was mostly rowdy men who created the company tonight. The majority rather happy to insult Aneira at every oppurtunity.
"So, what brings you to such a rough part of town missy?" A man, sitting at the bar and waiting for his drink, leered. "Shouldn't you be at home caring for the Father? Eh? Women's place and all that?"
Aneira scowled with her back to him, concentrating on filling the tankard. He continued, to her distaste. "You know, you would look lovely in one of those little pink dresses from the mainstreet, how about you buy one for work tomorrow....." Aneira cut him off by slamming the tankard down.
"Oh shut up and drink your alcohol, idiot." She muttered, hands on her hips. He looked at her, eyebrows raised in an amused way. She grabbed his arm and twisted it around. "Now." Her voice was dangerously low as she let go, and he nodded, no longer feeling arrogant, and scuttled off.

Eris wasn't sure what she thought of the customers tonight. Most of them were truly a pain in the ass.Slapping her ass and making all kinds of dirty comments about her outfit and the way she look. However by this point in her career she had learned a few tricks. She played along with the drunken idiots."Hey sweet heart get me another beer!"Yet another slapped her ass causing her to stop for only a short moment truly wanted to punch him in the face.Putting on a fake smile she turned her head towards the man."Coming right up!"She spoke with a playful wink before heading back to the bar to get a new beer.A rather annoyed look on her face with how bloody annoying the customers were.If it wasn't for the fact that Mr Jones had reccently caught her doing one of her reckless stunts, by giving out free beer and spilling alot of it while pooring into the customer's mouth, something she truly enjoyed. Then she would probably have done something similar tonight.

She gave her colleage and friend Aneria a short encouraging look as she walked past, listening to her talking with the disgusting man by the bar.Shortly she made her way back to the man who had 'ordered' a drink from her."Here you go mister."She grinned walking up behind him as she strocke his arm in a seductive way, putting the drink infront of him even though his full attention was on her now."Yeah come here baby."He hummed in amusement. She let her hand move towards his wrist were he had a rather beautiful jewlery yet it was of a manly design something she wasn't used to see. With everyone around the table staring at her she smoothly removed the bracelet and wrapped it into her hand as she moved her hand back up and put the hand under the tray she prevoiusly were holding with her other hand, face still turned towards the man as she gave him a seductive look."Maybe another time handsome.I still have work to do."She cooed before moving away, turning away as she made her way back to the bar with a satisfied look on her face. She knew it was dangerous moves but she simply couldn't help herself.

"I saw that." Aneira muttered as she passed Eris, but smiling to herself all the same. "You could buy a little pink dress?" She mimicked her last customer's voice with a roll of her eyes, setting a tankard down infront of a MUCH more polite gentleman. She could see the moon gleaming through a little paned window to the left, making patterns on the rough stone floor. The one glamorous thing here.
She pushed a wispy strand of hair back in her cap, a thin sheen of sweat coming from her brow in the process. It was sweltering in the pub, and with the door not opening so much now, the air had become clammy and hot. And if she doused the fire they would be drenched in darkness, which was a crisis worth averting. Aneira wove throught the groups of sailors, tray in hand, finally stopping at the small private room in the back. Someone had obviously paid well for the privacy, and she was almost excited to see who as she slipped in.
"Sirs, I believe you ordered the chicken, bread and ale?" She set the tray down, surverying the company. They were dressed decently, prehaps Upper-Middle class status. All men, and all looked weary, beards slightly untrimmed and most wearing gold earings. Aneira let out a slight, almost inaudible sigh. They were pirates, she would bet her life on it.
"Yes we did Lass." One said dismissievly, before looking up. "Why don't you join us for a pint?"
"I have work to do...."
"Now, do you think we should sail through the Kraken waters of Davy Jones locker, or risk the Bermuda Triangle, where Sirens lurk?" He interrupted Aneira, who stood stock still, very confused. "That's right lass, the waters of the west are filled with nasty beasties. How do you think Blackbeard met his end?"
Aneira frowned, relaxing slightly, one hand on the door handle. "Pray do tell."

Eris smirked as she looked over at Aneria hearing she saw her."Well what do you expect?"She chuckled in return as she stood by the bar once again. Finally she could realx for a few seconds. An unexpected lloud laugh appeared as she tried to cover her mouth after hearing Aneria mocking the previous customer. She could amuse her like no one else could. As her friend disappeared once more she find herself with a cloth as she tried to clean the bar the best she could. It took a while before another what she assumed was customer showed up by the bar causing her to look up."What can i get for you tonight?"She asked as she moved her gaze moved back to the spot she was currently cleaning.

The man was young he was rather well dressed but wasn't ritch and he had those capitaving cheek bones that was simply to rare for her.Not someone she would guess was a pirate but she never knew."I have heard of a rumor around these parts and i grew curious."The man started as she looked up at him while still rubbing the same spot."A rumor about some girls dancing and having fun around these parts.I think i heard them calling it 'The Blackwood dance'?"She heard the male explain causing her to nearly snort a laugh hearing the name people had came up with. She bit the inside of her cheek to not smile to much before giving him an answer."Sadly they aren't around tonight."She stated staring him right in the eye trying to give him a hint. When suddenly a figure entering the building caught her attention."Can i get you anything else Mr?"She asked with a friendly smile."Nah that'd be all Miss."The man spoke as he lowered his hat gently almost bowing before leaving just as the familiar figure from earlier came closer,Mr Jones.

She've been truly struggling around her boss to keep her cool and not do something that'd cost her job.Walking around the bar he snuck up behind her."How is busniess going tonight?"He questioned causually as he pressed his body close to her.She knew what he had in mind but she wasn't going to give him the same thing that gained her this job."Busniess is good."She stated trying to ignore him as moved closer to her ear."No troubles?"He questioned and she knew what he was refering to.He was probably well aware of the fact that this place was often filled with dirt bags who didn't treat the bartenders very nicely at all.

The pirates almost began lecturing Aneira on the myths of the sea, many of which she'd heard before. But, she got a free drink out of it, and that was a guaranteed positive. It was interesting to hear them speak, and they seemed well travelled, from the Carribean maybe? But also, they were definately Bristol natives, the accent was strong enough to know. She didn't want to relax too much, as that would be dangerous. And she had work to do. So she went to silently excuse herself, and in doing so, bumped into Mr Jones. He frowned down at her, placing a hand on her shoulder with a disapproving look.
"I expected more Miss Jean." He sighed, much to Aneira's anger and confusion. Her always called her the french maiden name of her deseased mother, to further humiliate her into being shamed for her illegitamacy. But it would never work. "I expect more from my barmaids than sitting in the parlour getting drunk with pirates." He tutted. Aneira just growled inwardly, cursing under her breath as she stormed off past him.

Eris was just about to snap when she simply took a deep breath before turning to him."No troubles."She stated not giving much of emotional of her face expression.Suddenly he spotted someone he knew and he started to move away from her."Asshole."She mumbled under her breath. Why was she here when she could sneak up on a ship?Maybe join a group of pirates for god sake she was stealing from her customers. But she couldn't leave Aneria just like that, probably the only thing keeping her here. The hours had passed a little and slowly drunken men started to fall into deep sleep around in the room.Sleeping on a table or on someone's shoulder or heck like this guy simply laying on the floor. There was still life in the building however.

"Hey," Aneira nudged Eris as she and a few other barmaids set to work getting the Pub's residents upstairs, and the rest into less backbreaking sleeping positions, "Ready for the next wave?" In a few minutes, the men here would start waking up. It was like clockwork every night, they would be cranky from the vauge hangover they were starting to get in their sleep, and want to drink it away. They would want to get ready to leave, and with the outpour of people, fights would ensue. Some of the night workers would begin to drift in as the hours turned to morning, and many of them were only a tad more civil than the current customers, the others far worse.
She went to sit on the bar, unpinning her jacket and throwing it to the side as the heat got to her, leaving her stays and shift on underneath. It was perfectly fine to do so, as the closing stomacher at the front kept it somewhat modest. She poured herself and Eris a drink, watching the door keenly. She felt tired, but ah well, she did rather want a nice and hot sunday pie this week.
